To tell minutes, just use 'y', which means 'and'. For example: 'Que hora es?' , What time is it? 'Son las cinco y treinta y seis'. It's 5:36. 'Son las tres y cinco'. It's 3:05. You can also use 'y cuarto' for fifteen minutes after the hour, 'Que hora es?', What time is it? 'Es la una y cuarto'. It's 1:15. Use 'y media' for half-past the hour. Que hora es? What time is it? 'Son las ocho y media'. It's 8:30. You can use 'menos' to say how many minutes before the hour it is. 'Que hora es?', What time is it? 'Son las siete menos cuarto'. It's a quarter to seven. 'Son las nueve menos diez'. It's ten minutes to nine.
