In this lesson, we will look at the "o" to "ue" stem-changing verbs. We will also learn a few verbs that have this stem change.

Vocabulary:

volver - to return or come back almorzar - to have lunch contar - to count costar - to cost encontrar - to find morir - to die poder - to be able probar - to try or taste recordar - to remember soñar - to dream cenar - to have dinner [SLIDE 1] The last type of stem-change involves verbs where the 'o' is changed to a 'ue'. Examples of such verbs are volver (to return), dormir (to sleep), contar (to count). Let's look at the forms for dormir (to sleep). Yo duermo. I sleep. Notice that we simply changed the 'o' in dormir to 'ue' and then added on the appropriate ending. Tú duermes. Él, ella, o usted duerme. Nosotros dormimos. Ellos, ellas, o ustedes duermen. A couple more quick examples. 'He returns' is 'él vuelve.' Notice that all we had to was change the 'o' in volver to 'ue' and conjugate as normal. 'I count' is 'Yo cuento.' The 'o' in contar became 'ue'. Cuento. There is one unique verb 'jugar', which means 'to play', which does not fall into any of the three stem-change categories that you've learned. We'll cover it here because its stem change is very similar to the 'o' to 'ue' stem change. The 'u' becomes 'ue'. Yo juego, Tú juegas, Él, ella o usted juega, Nosotros jugamos, Ellos, ellas o ustedes juegan,
